This report summarises the papers presented at the international conference 'Living on the
Margins: Vulnerability, social exclusion and the state in the informal economy', which took place
on 26-28 March 2007 in Cape Town, South Africa. The conference was co-hosted by the
Programme for Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS) at the University of the Western Cape,
Isandla Institute and the Chronic Poverty Research Centre (CPRC) at the
University of Manchester.
